Out of Office

I'll be out of the office from May 11-20th.

My blog will be on partial hiatus until June. No Thirteenth Rejection this month, but you get double the stats for next month. However, Wednesday Reads will be continuing. A couple fantastic books are lined up. Hint: one has vampires, werewolves, and trolls, Oh My! Another a ghost story that isn't a ghost story. And yet another features a temperamental house plant.

While my blog sits and stews, let me know what YOU want me to blog about upon my return. This can be anywhere from a full blog post, to a series of blog posts, to a book you really think needs to be in my pile, to just some questions you want me to answer, generally about the publishing/reading/writing world, or specifically about me as an agent.

Happy reading, writing, and everything-elsing!!!

Well I'm a little (ahem) thankful my reading list won't get another addition this week :)

I do have a question for you! Specifically about you as an agent. Do you respond to all queries...whether form or personal?

Have a great trip, Vickie! We'll miss you while you're away. :)

I would love to know what sways your vote one way or the other when you're on the fence about a project. And also what warrants an insta-no when you're reading queries and/or pages.

I'm loving your blog posts on books and their first lines/whether you'd rep them. I find that incredibly helpful in getting to know your tastes. More of that, please!

Also, maybe you've already done a post on this before (I'll have to snoop around, ahem), but maybe we could hear about what aspects of your favorite books of all time inspired you to seek out the genres you're looking for?

Thanks, Vickie! Have a good break! :)

First, what Gina said! :)
2nd: you, personally--how do you feel about boy POV MCs?
3rd: dystopians? Where does those rank on your personal list?
4th: would you ever take an elevator pitch knowing the writer might need a month or more to actually query?
Thank you :)

Have a wonderful break, Vickie!

I always look forward to your Wednesday Reads posts and I'm wondering if you've read JELLICOE ROAD by Melina Marchetta... I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!

I would love to know whether, when querying agents, if YA trumps LGBT as a genre. Because there are only a handful (okay, maybe 10-15) agents who list on query tracker and such sites that they are interested in the genre of LGBT. But at conferences, more agents talk about being open to that submission. How mainstream is LGBT as agent querying goes? How can one query widely in that genre?

Hi Vickie!

Let me ask you: would you represent an international writer?
I know there aren't any true obstacles about representing international writers (I've talked to two publishing attorneys, to make sure), but I know some agents prefer US-residents only.

What would be your saying in this matter?

Thanks! And enjoy your break!

I find your blog to be a valuable resource to me as a writer. Do you have any recommendations to other blogs that are equally as beneficial?

So..after reading more of the Wednesday Reads, and previous blog posts..I have a question/suggestion..

In a lot of blogs throughout the months you've mentioned that you prefer longer books. For your Wednesday reads..would you mind mentioning something about the length of the book? It's be interesting to see how an agent feels about the length, and because you have the "Would I represent it" portion it would be something to look at...

Thanks!
