NaNo Halfway Point

Has anyone given up yet? Haha. Just a few things on the agenda today:

1) BACK UP YOUR FILES. If you haven't already, back up your files. Last year when I did NaNo (the first and only time), I didn't. I had them on a thumb drive because I was worried my computer was about to crash. Instead, the files on the thumb drive got corrupted. I did manage to save the 60K words, but it didn't have punctuation, format, quotation marks, nothing. Needless to say, it was a nightmare to fix, which I finally did a few months later.

2) What's the craziest thing you've done yet this NaNo? Forget your child? Scream EUREKA!! in the middle of the grocery store because you just realized how to overcome a plot hiccup? Go two days without eating? Manage to write 1K words on your grocery list? Start over with a new idea?

3) And just in case you need it:

Happy (safe) writing!

Oh my gosh that would be horrible to fix! Yikes! I'm not doing NaNo this year, but between revising/rewriting and chasing after a coupla kids, I think I may need that poster. :)

I'm a paranoid writer. I've got my novel backed up at about five different places. It helps me sleep better at night. The craziest thing I can think of is laughing out loud, at work, at what my characters are arguing about on the page in front of me. And that stress reduction kit? I've had one taped up in my office since last year, more for work than writing.

Thanks for sharing about your back-up issues. Can't imagine what that must be like.

Craziest thing? I got stuck last week, so I went out and got a manicure in a design my main character would wear. Teal and hot pink. I let the manicurist do whatever she wanted, and I ended with alternating teal and pink french tips with polka dots, all topped off with glitter. It looked like a 12-year old threw up on me. But it got me past the slump and back on track!

My pockets crinkle from sticky notes. Gotta take the time to transfer them to the proper chapters.

Craziest nano thing? Dance breaks. Not break dancing. I'm not that crazy! Yet :)

Yay, dance breaks! I'm not doing NaNo, but I'm fully in support of dance breaks. :)

Aaaand... you've just inspired me to back-up all my files. Loss of ALL punctuation? Yikes!

With all that you've got to do, cool and inspiring that you take the time for the blogging. Nice work staying in the fight to keep the conversation alive surrounding books and writing.

I use two thumb drives (or jump drives, if you like Battlestar Galactica) to back up my computer, so I'm half as likely to have such a disaster.
Your Query Me page says you don't take satires. Do you mean a satire of a particular book? Or would you allow a satire of urban fantasy in general?
